Nazaré
Im Zentrum dieses Werks steht eine Welle – oder besser: ein Ereignis. „Nazaré“ ist benannt nach dem portugiesischen Küstenort, berühmt für seine monströsen Wellen, und fängt zugleich die Wucht und die Stille ein, die das Meer in sich tragen kann.
Das Gemälde zieht den Blick unweigerlich in seinen Strudel: in ein Blau, das mit jedem Zentimeter tiefer zu werden scheint. Fast scheint es, als würde das Bild atmen – mit jedem Farbverlauf ein Einziehen der Gischt, ein Loslassen der Kraft. Die Form einer brechenden Welle oder eines Wirbels vermittelt Bewegung, doch nichts stürzt – alles bleibt im Schwebezustand.

At the centre of this work is a wave - or rather: an event. ‘Nazaré’ is named after the Portuguese coastal town, famous for its monstrous waves, and captures both the force and the stillness that the sea can carry.
The painting inevitably draws the eye into its vortex: into a blue that seems to deepen with every centimetre. It almost seems as if the painting is breathing - with each colour gradient, the spray is drawn in, the force is released. The shape of a breaking wave or a vortex conveys movement, but nothing falls - everything remains in a state of suspension.
The cracks, delicately drawn into the surface like scars, are reminiscent of traces of past forces. They suggest that this painting not only shows beauty, but also vulnerability - like a reminder that even the sublime carries fragility within it.
‘Nazaré’ is not an image of the sea. It is a homage to its presence - majestic, unfathomable, meditative. Anyone who sits in front of it senses that the greatest movement happens in one's own perception.
